Facts about MAHD
The Muleshoe Area Hospital District was created in June, 1989. 89.5% of the district voted to create it. The District includes Bailey County and part of Parker County.
The District is governed by a five member Board of Directors. Each director represents a geographical area and is elected by the voters of that area. Directors are volunteers and receive no pay.
Muleshoe Area Medical Center and Park View Nursing Care center is part of the District and are supported, in part, by taxes levied on personal and real property. Tax revenues typically account for between 5-10% of the Districts costs.
When you use your medical center for inpatient or outpatient care, you increase total revenue. In addition because most of your costs are paid bu other sources (Medicaid, Medicare or insurance), your medical center brings new money into our community. This benefits you in two ways: It stimulates the local economy and reduces the need for taxes.
You may be aware that our Board of Directors imposed and necessary tax increase in our District. This increase can and will be reversed if the additional revenue is no longer needed. We are continually implementeing changes to improve the revenue for the district.
